Selecta Magnum: Magnumficent?

I will not post my 3rd entry for Pyro Musical today just to give way on this review. So what is Selecta Magnum? It is a new ice cream creation of Selecta by Unilever and RFM (correct me if I'm wrong). Apparently, this product was trending in twitter last week (I'm not sure about this, I just got the information from other sources. nyaha). And I learned the product yesterday from my officemate.

According to him, he was looking for it since last week and he was saying "lahat ng pupuntahan kong grocery kahit 7/11, sold out yung ice cream", imagine that. There was also a photo  of my three high school classmates on my FB news feed, each holding a stick of Magnum ice cream, posing like endorsers..haha. Everyone in my circle seems going gaga over this product.  That piqued my curiosity. What is so special about this Magnum ice cream thing?

Selecta Magnum comes on sevaral variants but currently in the Philippine market, only 3 variants are available: Classic, Almond and Chocolate Truffle, other variants please see wikipedia

I decided to try this today, and luckily the 7/11 near our building carries the product. Me and my other office mate bought different variant, mine was Almond and his was Chocolate Truffle, just to see which one is better. I wasn't able to persuade my other office mate to buy the Classic variant. '

Almond

The ice cream costs Php 60.00 in 7/11 but if you buy this on the supermarket it will cost only Php 50.00. I know, I know, it is expensive for just a stick of ice cream! But because my curiosity eats me up during that time, I decided to try this just to fulfill that hunger.

Now, the question comes in...is my Php 60.00 worth it? NO but Php 50.00 will do just fine. hahaha. Php 60.00 is too much for it. Why? For me, the only thing that is best with this ice cream is the coating (it's Belgian chocolate and almonds, hello?!). That's all. The ice cream was creamy but that was it. My office mate didn't eat yet his chocolate truffle variant so I wasn't able to ask his opinion (he kept his on the fridge).

I have to salute the marketing strategy of this product since they use the social media to promote this (I hope I'm not one of those) and the timing is just right (summer time is coming and every one is looking for something to cool them down). But this is something that you have to think twice before buying it because of the price. Not that I'm putting down the product but that's how I see it.

Anyway, it's not bad after all but if you'll ask me, I'd rather buy a hot fudge sundae from mcdo than this one, not that I'm comparing the two but I'm just a poor lady, you know..On a second thought, maybe the Chocolate Truffle or the Classic variant will give a different impression on me, hmm let see.

Hmmm what is Php10 if you will enjoy your favorite, cholesterol-ridden frozen delight? not a lot, rather than walk a mile and getting tired; excitement reaching crescendo; and and the thrill of a bite is killing you?

But wait......

Did you know that a single Selecta Magnum Magnumficent has more fat than a hamburger and more cholesterol than 10 glazed doughnuts? Skip the Magnumficent and try a cup of fresh fruit for dessert instead. Fruit is low in calories and high in the fiber, vitamins, and nutrients you really need — making it one of the best things you can eat for lower cholesterol.

Talk about dieting and losing weights...

@calin lin,
almond palang natry ko pero according to my officematewho tried the choco truffle, it's too sweet for him, kaya di nya naappreciate. You're right much better kung nasa cup nalang like yung Selecta gold series.

@menofbabylon,
:D:D:D

Delicious, but not with mind-blowing deliciousness to make me buy it again for 50 or 55 pesos. My shallow pockets say ouch! I think 30 pesos is the more reasonable price for it.
