The crazy things I do - I went to Discover Scuba Diving

22:33 10 Comments A+ a-

Finally, my first solo travel ever! It was supposed to happen last week but I am too nervous to went with my own plan so I have it cancelled that week. The feeling of being alone and doing something that I haven't tried yet makes me feel scared. :)). I've been planning this trip two weeks already and during that time I was not really comfortable to go on.

But now, no more excuses, no more buts, I went ahead. The fun, fearless female in me ay hindi na papaawat (cosmo? hehe). I already booked a resort prior to this trip. I asked my mom's permission to go to Anilao. She asked me whom I'll go with, to not make her worry, I just told her that I'll go there with my office mates (not looking at her eyes). I know she'll freak out if she learned that I only went there alone. Knowing my mom, expect that she'll not permit me. I don't want to cancel this trip. Not again. The fact that I really want to learn how to dive is enough to go aja!

This trip is worth it.
(Wrong hand signal in diving)

Since this is my first time going to Anilao Batangas, I printed out some information on how to go there, thanks to Lakwatsero's Travel Guide to Anilao, at least I have an idea on what to say to the bus conductor. :)

I rode the RRCG bus line with the sign Batangas City Pier (located at Gil Puyat). Unlike on Lakwatsero's guide that I have to take off on the diversion road, there is a change of route. The conductor said that it is not allowed anymore to drop off passengers at the diversion road and they will be drop off instead at the Grand terminal. That time, I don't know what is Grand terminal (I know that it is terminal, but I am not sure if makakapunta ako sa paroroonan ko), but since it is a terminal at least I can ask around where the heck is Anilao,Mabini.

I chose Aquaventure resort to do my introdive. I booked at 8am for a daytrip, unfortunately, I woke up late and went there almost 1pm. Hahaha. Buti nalang, the staff there are accommodating (the looked on their faces were different when I told them I was alone). Even I was late, nakapag-introdive pa rin ako.

I was the only one who had a lesson that time. First was a one on one pool session with the dive master. There, I was told the proper way on how to breath under water, what to do and what not to do. To tell you the truth it was not easy. There were a couple of times that I go up because I'm losing my breath underwater, I was having a hard time inhaling and exhaling. My instructor told me that I was breathing with my lips open (I am not aware that I was doing this!). And there was one time, that I am not almost breathing! Nakalimutan huminga teh? hahaha.  I want to walk out already and told my instructor that I can't do this, baka mamatay ako dahil nakalimutan ko huminga haha, but of course I didn't do that. I am here already, why backing out?

Initiation is done here. :D

He told me that I was having a hard time because I don't trust the system. Maybe the dm was right, so for another last one shot, I tried to go down and do the underwater breathing. Yahoo! Finally nagawa ko na. Nakatagal na ako sa ilalim ng water. After that part, everything is now undercontrol. I asked the dm to let me swim for a few minutes in the pool (preparing for the next session).

And the highlight of this trip, tadah, the open water session of my intro dive. Pictures were taken using my new baby -Agfa Eclipse Explorer. I bought that camera especially for this trip. Sorry for the low quality pics. Mura lang binili ko since I was on a budget and nagmamadali din kasi ako dahil next day na yung trip. Siyempre, I wanted to documented this activity.

And their color is bronze!
 Fishes!

and more fishes!

There were dead corals on some part that we went and some of them are struggling, sad sad.  Anyway, I know mas marami pa akong makikitang marine life if pumunta pa kami sa mas malalim na part. But as much as I want to go deeper, I know I have to follow my instructor. Nevertheless it was fun and very worthwhile.

To summarize the trip going there (Zy's style):
~ Take a bus going to Batangas City on Gil Puyat. Damage: Php 125.00
~ Drop off at Grand Terminal, ride a jeepney with a sign of Mabini. Damage: Php 45.00
~ Take a tricycle on Anilao Port going to the (insert here) resort. Damage: Php 90.00

Going back is almost the same, but if you'll ride a tricycle, asked the driver to drop you off at the crossing.
~Tricycle going to crossing. Damage: Php 100.00
~Ride a jeepney with a Batangas Sign. Ask the jeepney driver to drop you off at the diversion road. I guess only the jeepneys are allowed to drop off passengers there.  Damage: Php 25.00.
~Diversion road to Grand Terminal. Damage: Php 8.50
~Ride a bus going back to LRT Taft. Damage: 125.00

Introdive fee: Php 1750.00 including all gears and equipment. (I know, it's cheaper than the usual discover scuba diving fee but I guess it is enough for me).

If you want to try this activity, I just wanted to share these things na inalam ko talaga before doing it:

  • If you have a bad eye sight like me, you can use contact lenses. Caution: there are times that the water might get inside your mask so be careful.
  • Even if you are overweight, you can still dive. The dm will assess if you are ready to dive anyway.
  • Non swimmers can also dive.
  • Hairnet is a must! My instructor told me that my hair gets in my way. Or kahit hindi nakahairnet, basta nakatali ang buhok.

One thing I can say? Try this! Promise, mahirap lang sa simula but once you go under the water iba na ang feeling. I am happy, very much happy na nagawa ko yung isang bagay na matagal ko na gusto i-try.

Nice experience, very unique. Nice also for a picture taking and facebook posting but will be better if you follow it up until you become a certified diver.

It will be better for you go next time with a companion and has your mother's blessing.
